Mexique, 1978
L’œuvre de Moris tourne autour de thèmes liés à la représentation, à la volonté sociale et subjective, aux questions urbaines et aux cultures marginales, souvent considérées comme allant de soi dans les sociétés conventionnelles.
Informés par un travail de terrain constant, les sujets qu’il explore font partie de sa vie depuis l’enfance et sont essentiels à sa formation, tant personnelle que professionnelle.
La rue et l’espace social constituent son laboratoire de recherche, de collecte de données et d’indices, d’analyse des cultures visuelles et des esthétiques vernaculaires.
Il observe, intègre et apprend des divers codes sociaux des classes marginales de Mexico : leurs dialectes et leur sémiotique, leurs stratégies de survie et leur usage informel de l’esthétique dans leur environnement. Leur manière de rendre la routine quotidienne plus humaine et digne constitue la ligne directrice du travail de Moris.
Il a participé aux Biennales de São Paulo et de La Havane, ainsi qu’à des expositions collectives à la Fondation Jumex au Mexique, à la Fontanals Cisneros à Miami, à Artium à Vitoria et au Musac de León. Il a également réalisé des expositions individuelles au Musée d’Art Contemporain de Los Angeles, au Musée Carrillo Gil et à la Sala Siqueiros à Mexico, ainsi qu’à la Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken, en Allemagne.
Son œuvre fait partie des collections du MoMA à New York, du Pérez Art Museum à Miami, de la Fondation Jumex, de CIFO Fontanals Cisneros, d’Artium, du MOCA de Los Angeles, du Museo Amparo à Puebla, du Musée d’Art Moderne de Mexico, du Musée d’Art Contemporain de San Diego, de la Collection Isabel et Agustín Coppel à Mexico, de la Collection Celia Birbragher à Bogotá, de la Collection David Chipperfield à Londres et de la Collection Tiroche DeLeon en Israël, entre autres.
