VARIATION/ Paris: PAISAJE PERPENDICULAR, José Luis Landet
OPENING SUNDAY 13th OCTOBER, 15 – 19 H, Paris
I think of my work as the place where there are different ways of operating and assimilating cultural processes traversed by social, political and ideological actions. I am interested in investigating some vestiges or socio-cultural wastes, for example: recovering painted landscapes (oil on canvas, produced between 1940 to 1970), with a certain Romantic or Bucolic look, made by amateur painters. A search for a particular notion of paradise, in order to recreate an apocryphal individual.
These images (paintings) and other symbolic elements such as everyday objects, photographs, letters, postcards, super 8 films, slides, writings, magazines and books are part of the materials with which I work, in a material and conceptual deconstruction.
When I find these objects, they have a thick background composed by memories, time and use. It is important for me to analyse each one of them, take a photographic record, classify and, later on, manipulate them according to the needs of the project in turn.
Usually these actions have to do with filing, cutting, breaking, covering, forging, submerging, fragmenting, simulating, getting them out of the shadows and resignifying them. These are metaphoric and poetic actions.

CAMPING presents: ‘No ser ni la sombra de lo que se fue’ by María Jerez

When we see a shadow, especially where there should not be one, we tend to turn to see what is producing it. This work forgets the cause in order to focus on the shadow and stay with what it produces. A new image, a phenomenon that is no longer just the body that generates it, but is itself another body, a body always in relation: with the light, the surface on which it is projected, as well as with the distant bodies that are in it. Superimpositions, reflections, fragments, biases, distances, phantoms…
The work of MARÍA JEREZ (1978) is situated ‘between’ choreography, film and the visual arts. Since 2004 she has produced pieces that explore the relationship with the spectator as a space in which modes of representation are put in crisis. From The Case of the Spectator to her latest pieces, this relationship has mutated from a place of understanding of theatrical and cinematographic conventions, to the intentional loss of references where the artist, the piece and the spectator behave towards each other as strangers.
‘No ser ni la sombra de lo que se fue’ is the twelfth edition of CAMPING.
CAMPING is a project by Nerea and Idoia Fernández, directors of NF/NIEVES FERNANDEZ, and Blanca Cortés, lawyer specialized in intellectual property.

ÂNGELA FERREIRA: ABRIL VERMELHO. Centro de Artes Visuais
Abril Vermelho
In the year that marks the 50th anniversary of April 25, the CAV proposes an exhibition in which national and international artists problematize the meaning of this half-century of freedom and democracy in our country. Structured from existing works and commissioned projects, the exhibition will give visibility to ways of understanding the Revolution in polysemic senses, opening a desired space for discussion on what has been done and what remains to be done.
Group exhibition
Centro de Artes Visuais, Coimbra
From April 5 to June 16, 2024
