PHOTOEspaña 2020. Nerea Fernández y Javier Hontoria en Conversaciones del Festival OFF.
Nerea Fernández, Codirectora de NF/NIEVES FERNÁNDEZ y Vicepresidenta de ARTE_MADRID, y Javier Hontoria, Director del Museo Patio Herreriano, han participado de las Conversaciones Festival OFF de PHOTOEspaña 2020. Charlando, entre otras cosas, sobre el futuro del arte desde una perspectiva virtual.

NF/ NIEVES FERNÁNDEZ presenta CAMPING
Sabemos del poder del arte por su capacidad para convocar y aglutinar a públicos diversos dispuestos a cuestionar sus valores, acciones, creencias y decisiones.
Sabemos también que los tiempos que corren demandan redefinir el valor del arte y la cultura pero que no seremos capaces de hacerlo sin crear entornos en los que sea posible compartir compromisos entre las personas interesadas.
Con la ambición de ser más relevantes, permeables y participativos hemos creado CAMPING, una iniciativa que abrirá el espacio de la galería NF/ NIEVES FERNANDEZ a diversos actores culturales, con el fin de que puedan desarrollar y exhibir sus proyectos y creaciones libremente. Tomando como soporte de sus acciones el espacio expositivo, los diversos actores desplegarán sus proyectos temporales interactuando con la exposición instalada en ese momento en la galería.
Con este proyecto, CAMPING ofrece un encuentro entre los creadores y el público quienes acamparán tomando la galería como un paisaje privilegiado en el que disfrutar de un periodo de reflexión y convivencia alejado de las estridencias del mundo exterior.
En breve se comunicará la primera acción.
CAMPING es un proyecto de Nerea e Idoia Fernández, directoras de NF/NIEVES FERNANDEZ y de Blanca Cortés, abogada especializada en propiedad intelectual.
We know the power of art for its ability to convene and bring together diverse audiences willing to question their values, actions, beliefs and decisions.
We also know that current times demand to redefine the value of art and culture, but that we will not be able to do so without creating environments in which it is possible to share commitments among interested people.
With the ambition to be more relevant, permeable and participatory, we have created CAMPING, an initiative that will open the gallery space at NF/ NIEVES FERNANDEZ to various cultural actors, so that they can freely develop and exhibit their projects and creations. Taking the exhibition space as a support for their actions, the various actors will display their temporary projects interacting with the exhibition installed at that time in the gallery.
With this project, CAMPING offers a meeting between the creators and the public who will camp, taking the gallery as a privileged landscape in which to enjoy a period of reflection and coexistence away from the shrillness of the outside world.
The first action will be communicated shortly.
CAMPING is a project conceived by Nerea and Idoia Fernández, directors of NF/ NIEVES FERNANDEZ and Blanca Cortés, lawyer specialized in intellectual property.

Pretérito perfecto. Ângela Ferreira, Grada Kilomba y Rogelio López Cuenca.
NF/NIEVES FERNÁNDEZ presenta la exposición colectiva ‘Pretérito perfecto’, con obras de Ângela Ferreira, Grada Kilomba y Rogelio López Cuenca y comisariada por Bruno Leitão, con un abordaje crítico hacia los sistemas políticos y económicos de producción contemporáneos.
La exposición Pretérito Perfecto busca generar un encuentro entre el momento actual y sus preludios en el pasado.
Los artistas que la conforman tienen en común un entendimiento del arte como herramienta crítica de investigación: Ângela Ferreira, Grada Kilomba y Rogelio López Cuenca, desde países distintos y aludiendo a contextos diferentes, desarrollan prácticas que se encuentran y resuenan entre sí, en las que investigan y reflexionan sobre varios momentos de la Historia. A lo largo de sus respectivas carreras, estos artistas han trabajo sobre colonialismo, estados de excepción, silenciamientos y otras cuestiones enquistadas de forma estructural en nuestras sociedades y, con sus miradas contrahegemónicas, continúan empujando los límites de los discursos establecidos. El trabajo de memoria que llevan a cabo al entender el pasado como un momento en permanente revisión, crea formas disruptivas y da paso a formalizaciones diversas que aportan nuevas posibilidades de mirar al mundo y de entenderlo hoy.
Así, en esta exposición coexisten varias capas temporales: la alusión al pasado reciente de España a través de la no-ficción, la reinterpretación de clásicos fundacionales de la cultura europea o el homenaje a distintas figuras o episodios utópicos de la Historia del siglo XX en Portugal, Mozambique, República Democrática del Congo y otros países.
Pretérito Perfecto es, por tanto, un título cargado de ironía, que problematiza nuestra relación con la Historia e implica que dependemos de su estudio crítico para arrojar luz sobre episodios del pasado y sus consecuencias en el presente.
Bruno Leitão
Ângela Ferreira (Maputo, 1958), su práctica artística está centrada en el análisis de las consecuencias derivadas del colonialismo y el poscolonialismo en el mundo contemporáneo: un ámbito de investigación dónde la identidad y la configuración del movimiento moderno en contextos sometidos a un pasado colonial desempeñan un papel crucial.
Grada Ferreira (Lisboa, 1968) es una artista interdisciplinaria reconocida por su trabajo centrado en el examen de la memoria, el trauma, el género, el racismo y el postcolonialismo. Su obra se realiza en varios formatos, desde el texto, la lectura escénica y la interpretación, hasta el vídeo y las instalaciones escénicas, en lo que denomina “Performing Knowledge”.
La obra de Rogelio López Cuenca (Nerja, 1959) abunda sobre el lenguaje, los medios de masas, las crisis migratorias, la memoria histórica y, de manera más general, las dinámicas del poder en la sociedad actual. En la exposición, se presentan obras producidas en colaboración con Elo Vega (Huelva, 1967).

NF/ NIEVES FERNÁNDEZ presents the group exhibition ‘Pretérico perfecto’ with artworks by Ângela Ferreira, Grada Kilomba and Rogelio López Cuenca, and curated by Bruno Leitão, with a critical approach to contemporary political and economic production systems.
The exhibition Pretérito Perfecto aims towards generating an encounter between the current moment and its preludes in the past.
The artists that compose the exhibition share an understanding of art as a critical tool for research: Ângela Ferreira, Grada Kilomba and Rogelio López Cuenca, from different countries and alluding to different contexts, develop artistic practices that meet and resonate among themselves, and in which they explore and reflect on several moments of History. Throughout their respective careers, these artists have worked on colonialism, states of exception, silencing and other issues structurally encrusted in our societies and, with their counter-hegemonic gaze, keep on pushing the boundaries of the established discourses. The work on memory they carry out on perceiving the past as a moment of time in constant revision, generates disruptive forms and opens to diverse formalizations that contribute to new possibilities of seeing and understanding the world today.
Hence, in this exhibition, several time layers: the reference to Spain’s recent past through the non-fictional, the reinterpretation of fouding classics of European culture or the hommage to different figures or utopian episodes of the 20th Century History in Portugal, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of the Congo and other countries.
Pretérito Perfecto [Past Perfect] is, therefore, a title charged with irony, that questions our relation with History and implies that we rely on its critical study to shed light on past episodes and its consequnces in the present.
Bruno Leitão
Ângela Ferreira (Maputo, 1958), her artistic practice is focused in the analisis of consequences from colonialism and postcolonialism in the contemporary world: a research scope where identity and the configuration of a modern movement play a central role in contexts subdued to a colonial past.
Grada Ferreira (Lisbon, 1968) is an interdisciplinary artist know for her work centered on the examination of memory, trauma, gender, racism and postcolonialism. Her work is realized in different formats, from texts, stage reading and acting, until videos, theatrical installations, in what she entitles “Performing Knowledge”.
The works of Rogelio López Cuenca (Nerja, 1959) abounds on language, mass media, migration crises, historic memory and, in general, power dynamics in current society. At the exhibiton, the artworks presented are co-produced with Elo Vega (Huelva, 1965).
